Successful Education

In July, 2011, Dr. Tomasz Arciszewski attended at the University of Twente in the Netherlands an international workshop on computing organized by the European Group of Intelligent Computing in Engineering. During the workshop he represented the American Society of Civil Engineers. He served on the Academic Committee of the workshop. During the workshop, he presented a paper with Dr. S. Koziolek of the Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland. He also chair a session and organized another session on the ASCE Global Center of Excellence in Computing and chaired this session and made a presentation about the Center.

In June, 2011, Dr. Tomasz Arciszewski attended the ASCE International Workshop on Computing in Civil Engineering in Miami, Florida.  He served on the Review Board of the Workshop and organized a session on "ASCE Global Center in Computing", which he chaired and during which he made a presentation (with I. Smith and R. Issa) aboud the Center.  During the workshop he also chaired a session on "Cutting Edge Development " and presented a paper (written with S. Koziolek) on "Synectical Building of Representation Space: a Key to Computing Education".

In June, 2011, Dr. Tomasz Arciszewski traveled to Poland to visit Kielce and Warsaw.  In Kielce, he attended the Annual Conference of Civil Engineering Deans and gave a short talk on “Evaluation of Engineering Programs”.  Also, he attended the Annual Conference of Civil Engineering Student Research Clubs and gave a talk on “Creativity and Future of Civil Engineering”.  In Warsaw, Dr. Arciszewski attended the 2nd National Congress on Innovative Economy and participated in two panel discussions on “Education” and on “Innovation in Emerging Engineering Companies”.

In March, 2011, Dr Tomasz Arciszewski received a fellowship from the National Research Council in Taiwan and visited the University of Kaohsiung to teach a short course on Inventive Engineering.  During his trip to Taiwan, Dr. Arciszewski also gave talks on "Successful Education" for faculty and students at the national universities in Taipei, Tainan, and Kaohsiung.

In March, 2011, Dr. Tomasz Arciszewski gave and an invited talk on "Bioinspiration in Engineering Design" during an NSF workshop on bioinspiration in Palo Alto, CA.

Dr. Tomasz Arciszewski visited Poland in February.  He had a series of lectures on Inventive Engineering for PhD and graduate students from eight departments at the Wroclaw University of Technology and a lecture for faculty on "Successful Education," based on his recent book "Successful Education.  How to Educate Creative Engineers."  He also visited the Kielce University of Technology and had a lecture for faculty on "Asian Challenge and Engineering Education".
